Find Rest in God (Genesis 2)

January 15, 2017

This week we explored how God's rest in Gen 2:1-3 weaves its way throughout the whole Bible and the Christian life. If you are not at rest, turn towards God and his desire that you have a comprehensive rest:

  • The Lord invites us into physical rest. It is an act of obedience and worship to rest our bodies. (Exodus 20:8-11)

  • We are meant to find peace for our spirit in the peace with God that Jesus bought for us on the cross (Col 1:19-20)

  • We find rest in the law of God (Psalm 19:7) where God puts our priorities back in place.

  • We find peace in the hope we have for the future rest Jesus secured for us. (Rev 21:1-4)

  • That future rest is breaking into the present as we lean and rest on the people of God.

If you are ill at ease this week, consider the ways the Lord wants you to rest and invest yourself there. If you know someone far from God who is aware of their unrest, ask them if you can share a bit about how God offers rest to those who are born again!
